Is the BMW iDrive touchscreen?
In the early BMW models, the iDrive could only be operated by a knob placed between the front two seats. The iDrive menu was navigated with the help of the knob. Even text input was done with the help of Knob by inputting alphabets one by one.
But as time passed and technology progressed, some more functionality was added. So the user experience could be enhanced. After that, the iDrive touch controller was launched which had more options and better usability features for the BMW vehicles. The rotary knob was also there but the advanced touch option made it so easy for the users to interact with the iDrive unit. Another great feature was voice control when it made to the iDrive. Giving users a more comfortable option while driving the car so they don't get distracted from the road.
If your BMW does not have a touch screen iDrive unit don't worry. BMW iDrive retrofit option is present for you. Whether a BMW has a touch screen or not, depends upon the model and features of the car. Some older year models will have a touch screen and some recent models won't.
No doubt the touch and voice control features in the iDrive unit has made the user experience much better than before. And with added features like Apple Carplay have created a more user-friendly environment.
