How to use Apple CarPlay in BMW?
You must have listened to songs or podcasts in your car by connecting your phone. Just as the songs or the podcasts are playing in your phone and not in your car's infotainment system, the same mechanism works in the case of Apple Carplay. The apps which you are using on the Apple Carplay app are actually running on your iPhone eg (apple carplay Spotify, google maps apple carplay, Waze on apple carplay). Carplay cannot work alone. It needs an iPhone connected to apple carplay over Bluetooth or via cable at all times to function.
Unlike other manufacturers, Apple Carplay supports a wireless connection with your iPhone. To connect your iPhone with Apple Carplay go to Settings> General> Carplay in your phone to pair both the devices together.
After both the devices are connected the Apple Carplay menu will replace the factory iDrive menu. It will display all the Carplay apps that your phone has installed in it. Just as you would navigate through BMW's native iDrive menu the Apple Carplay menu is not so different. You can use the iDrive controller to use the menu and if you got the touch screen panel then the usability is as easy as using your phone. Just press the app you want to use and it will open before you and you can also access its settings from there.
With SIRI integrate into Apple Carplay you can access the voice command option right from your steering wheel. Just press the voice control button on the steering wheel and ask for directions, text messages, make calls, etc. Apple Carplay new apps are added every now and then to the software as well.
Apple Carplay usability is user friendly and simple to use. Just install the apps in your iPhone and after that follow these simple steps to add it to your Apple Carplay screen and start using the app. Go to Settings> General> Carplay. On this menu, you will be able to arrange, move & delete apps from your Apple Carplay screen.
